Gold is priced by the troy ounce, which is usually simply referred to as an ounce when talking about gold.
There are 31.1 grams to a troy ounce.
Note: the Troy ounce is different to the avoirdupois ounce which is an Imperial weight. There are 28.35 grams to an avoirdupois ounce.
The ‘Good Delivery’ bar is the standard gold bar traded and held internationally by central banks and bullion dealers. This has a nominal weight of 400oz (12,441.39 grams). The minimum purity required is 99.5% and gold content is permitted to vary between 350oz (10,886.22 grams) and 430oz (13,374,49 grams).
